Families Sought To
House International Visitors Have
you ever wondered what it would be like to have someone living abroad share
their ideas, culture and language with you and your family? Visiting students
and educators are anxious to meet and learn from you, too.
Opportunities
to host a short-term visitor for a
few days, a month, or even up to a full school year are available. Our office
works with host families throughout each hosting period. Here
are just a few situations for you to open your home and heart to: §
April or May: two,
2-week host families are needed. §
April-May: four,
1-month host families are needed. §
August 2004 – May 2005: two host families are needed the entire school year. We hope you think seriously and act quickly about

Maxine Lubenow Scholarship Fund Update The Maxine
Lubenow Scholarship award helped pay tuition costs for MATC students studying
in Cuernavaca, Mexico December 26, 2003 – January 18, 2004. Without these
$300.00 awards, some individuals may not have been able to experience this
unique learning opportnity.

1-Month Student Internship Program Quebec,
Canada Business
Administration faculty have an opportunity to enhance their students’
educational experience by encouraging them to travel to Canada and complete a
month long, nonpaying internship.
Students
accepted in this program will travel to Quebec, live with a family for a
total immersion experience, and work within their program industry. Encourage

WTCS
International Education Committee The standing committee on international
education is composed of representatives from all 16 college districts and
was established in 1994 to facilitate internationalization throughout the Wisconsin
Technical College System. The committee’s work includes initiatives in
professional development for students, faculty and staff; curriculum
development; sponsoring the annual summer institute on internationalizing
curriculum; and collaboration on activities to foster globally competent
citizens. MATC is represented by Rahim Setoodeh, Joanne Johnson-Clauser, Tony
Baez (ISA rep.) and Barbara Cannell (committee chairperson). |

for North American Mobility in Higher Education (FIPSE 3-DEE) Student
Exchange Program |

Later this year, students from Mexico and Canada will participate
in the program by traveling to Wisconsin, living with “host” families, and
attending classes at Mequon Campus.
This is the
first time exchanges have occurred in this five-year project. |

Professionals Abroad! Mexico
Study Tour During
the holiday break, 36 individuals visited the city of Cuernavaca, Mexico, to
study the Spanish language and learn about Mexico’s culture. Participants
returned and continue their studies at MATC or use their new language skills
in job positions across the community. Seven
students from this group received scholarship awards to supplement tuition
costs while in Mexico from the Maxine Lubenow Scholarship Fund. This
is the seventh year MATC offered this very popular study abroad program. Don’t miss out; join one of the 2004 groups! 2004 – 2005

Island Ecology Environmental Study Tour to Puerto
Rico Faculty,

Ghana – Summer of 2004 PIER-African Studies of the Council on African Studies at the Yale
Center for International and Area Studies has
applied for a Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad (GPA) grant to lead about
14 teachers/educators for curriculum development. We are accepting
applications now for early selection of participants, but final notification
will be made PENDING acceptance and funding of the project by the U. S. Dept.
