Colleagues:

On Friday, October 22, the Wisconsin NAFSA team met for the first time this
academic year.  I am on the team as the WTCS representative until 06.  We
currently have only a handful of WTCS folks who are NAFSA members - and
that's OKAY (for now!).   The best thing about this meeting was planning
the spring conference (in Madison April 4-5) and all of us agreeing that it
will be open to everyone interested in international education (you do not
have to be a NAFSA member).  So, I want to encourage all of us to spread
the word about the conference once the RFP comes out so that we (the WTCS)
can be well represented and have sessions available to meet our needs, too.

Also on the team are:

Jason Jonely, Chair,  from UW Madison
Cherie Sawinski, Past Chair, from UW Superior
Richard Porior, Saint Norbert College, is the ESL program Rep. (ATESL)
Phil Huelsbeck, UW Eau Claire, is the Foreign Student Services Rep. (CAFSS)
Maria Pikuleff, UW Milwaukee, is the membership coordinator
Donna Anderson, UW Platteville, is the Study Abroad Rep (SECUSSA)

There are vacancies in the positions for the Admissions Rep (ADSEC), and
Community Rep (COMSEC).

The primary purpose of the meeting was to organize the Spring conference.
Last year it was in Trego, WI, and included colleagues from Minnesota.
Everyone agreed it was a big success, although due to location,  attendance
was under 100 people.  This year we are hoping for 130 or more.

Do you have suggestions for topics for sessions that you would like to see?
There will be pre-conference workshops on F-1 and J-1 visas (and the
accompanying Sevis information) as well as on Study Abroad 101.  Let me
know if there are specific topics you are interested in hearing about (or
presenting on) and I will compile information to share with the committee.

So, Mark your calendars for April 4-5 NAFSA conference for Wisconsin
international educators.  Please share this with others on your campus who
may be interested in international education issues (admissions people,
etc.).
